It is strange the moments when the need to post something arises. For the most part, 2014 has been very busy, and until recently, I have felt like I have taken on much that has kept me thinly spread (if only that transferred to actually BEING thinly thin.. ;-) ). However, after seeing through most of my external commitments, it is time to prioritise myself as a commitment and get that work -life balance the way I want it.. and the internal-external commitment balance right to get myself balanced.
The most unsatisfactory aspect to tackle is the work aspect. There are benefits to casual work, but I am not sure they outweigh the benefits of a permanent position. The casual thing worked when studying full time, and fitting in teaching commitments, but it is not all that it is cracked up to be in the times in between.. and so it is time to change things up a bit. It is also time to get out of the private health system, and get back into the public. I love the public health system, for all its faults, I find it far more to my liking than the private. Time to reassess priorities. Consider the opportunities. Learn and grow.
Reflecting at the half way mark, 2014 has been mostly positive, and after some very trying times, it is nice to be looking forward and moving from the ghosts of the past, particularly those who have caused the most suffering. One of the most important things I have learned is that it is people that make situations good or bad - it seems that, as a species, we have lost our ability to be graceful under pressure. We have become so self absorbed in our own importance in the moment, that we do not consider the consequences of our actions in the big picture. We walk around in bubbles in which we are the centre of the universe, without noticing the ripple effect of how our behaviour impacts on other people. So much negativity. So much hatefulness. So much judgement. So many people who think that their shit doesn't stink. Think before you speak - before you post your angry tirade on social media - before you name and shame some 'idiot' who does not conform to your standards - because everybody is human. Mistakes happen. Get over yourself. And remember, that if they are some idiot that you named and shamed/went off at, you are some nutcase who went off at them for just doing their thing.. and generally speaking, the bitches/bastards/nutcases are the ones people record and send to the news for being out of control. Why show people your worst and ugly traits? Pick your battles - and have a little class, humanity and dignity.
Well! That went somewhere unexpected! It would seem that there are things to say.. so maybe more regular posts for a while.. *shrug* who knows?
Peace, love and mung beans, peeps.
